For those who prefer a more formal setting, WCARS-VE offers a six-week course of study for the Technician level license, held on the campus of AB Tech, Asheville, NC.

WCARS-VE utilizes the current ARRL Technician Class Study Manual, and emphasizes study to learn the theory and many facets of amateur radio, not just memorizing answers to pass the exam.

The schedule begins in February each year, and concludes near the end of March, depending upon weather closures at AB Tech.
